Bishop Don Young

BishopDon Born on November 11th, 1944, Bishop Don received his early education at Lewisporte Amalgamated School.  From there, he attended the Vocational Training Institute in St. John's.  He and Joan married and raised four children: Christopher, Carolyn, Cynthia and Cathy.  He attended the Atlantic School of Theology, Nova Scotia in 1975; received a L.Th. from Queen's College, St. John's in 1977.  He was ordained a Deacon on May 22nd, 1977 and a Priest on November 20th, 1977.  He served as Rector of the parish of Buchans from 1977 - 1981; Rector of the parish of Port Rexton from 1981 - 1989; Executive Officer of the Diocese of Central Newfoundland from 1989 -2000.  On September 30th, 2000, he was elected Coadjutor Bishop of Central Newfoundland and consecrated on November 30th of that year.  He succeeded Bishop Edward Marsh, and became the third Diocesan Bishop of the diocese on January 1st, 2001.  He served as Diocesan Bishop until December 31st, 2004, at which time he retired.  Upon retirement, Bishop Young became Honorary Associate at Holy Trinity and regularly came in from Norris Arm North, where he and Joan resided, to share in the liturgy and worship of the parish.  He also became the Diocesan part-time Chaplain at the hospital in Grand Falls Windsor - a duty he still performs on behalf of all three dioceses, dealing in matters that we have in common, such as church insurance, university chaplaincy, investments, and the Anglican Life paper.  In June of 2010, Bishop Don and Joan moved from Norris Arm North to Grand Falls Windsor where they are currently residing.  Their four children are married and live in close proximity, which allows them to spend much time with their 10 grandchildren.
